This weekend was jam packed with all kinds of fun as the 2011 Bark World Expo kicked off with a blast and was then quickly followed by Chattapoochie, a pet festival in Duluth, GA, on Sunday. We’re going to divide our reports on these events night by night, starting with the Tweet Up to open Bark World.
So, what exactly is a tweet up? A tweet up is…
“…a gathering of users brought together via Twitter. For example, at conferences, Twitter is used by attendees to arrange to meet after the show for discussion, cocktails and parties.” – PC Mag
In Bark World’s case, everyone met at Hotel Indigo, a gorgeous venue on Peachtree Street in Atlanta, GA and mixed and mingled while enjoying Van Gogh martini’s themed to the conference–They were called Heelers or Blue Greyhounds. With light refreshments, beverages, and a little bit of jet lag for many, the night went onward as people introduced themselves with a smile and their Twitter handle. The event was sponsored by Engauge, a media firm in Hotlanta.
The photos I have taken may look a tad blurry here, but click each photo for an un-blurred version:
- Little did I know that Neely's amazing t-shirt (and conversation piece) would bring me to meet one of my favorite people from this conference. Check her out at The Giving Paw.
- Everyone mingled about, dogs included, while enjoying cocktails and conversation at the Bark World Expo tweet up.
- Preston, a Westie, tweets and blogs through the hands of his owner at Preston Speaks.
- Niqqi was the belle of the ball among the pet bloggers as her cute hairdo and affection for a pink chair made her irresistibly cute.
- Engauge, a media firm in Atlanta, sponsored the Tweet Up for all of the pet enthusiasts.
- The decor of Hotel Indigo's lobby was amazing. Laid back, fun, and chic while always being charming. It was the perfect setting for laid back pet parents to meet each other with their furry friends.
- I'm not usually a huge fan of pink, but this hounds-tooth sofa with pink and black accent pillows looked gorgeous at Hotel Indigo.
After the tweet up I knew that this group of pet bloggers, feel social media enthusiasts, and just fun loving people was the perfect setting for me. It was a great start to an amazing conference.
What was your favorite moment at the tweet up if you were able to attend? If not, have you attended a conference that began with a tweet up? Tell me about it in a comment.

How fun!
One of these days, I’ll be able to make it to one of those blog conference-y things. It’s funny, I don’t normally like the “houndstooth” pattern, but I do like that couch!
Looking forward to reading more about BarkWorld!
It was a blast Jen, and I think you should definitely make it out to one. I found BarkWorld to be beyond useful and met a bunch of great people. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for coming out to our tweetup! Glad you had a good time. Great write-up
Drew, thanks for the comment! It was a blast and thanks to Engauge for putting on such a great event. All of the Engauge reps that were that were fabulous as well.
Hey Katie! Thanks for the compliment – you are one of my faves, too. But, I look so awkward in my pose!
It’s not awkward! Plus, I was a stranger taking a picture of your chest…a little awkwardness is allowed. Loved the t-shirt too much not to include it, though. Did you know there is a festival in GA called Pug Fest? It’s coming up, i think in November.
Love your pictures! Glad you had a good time.
Thanks Julie! I appreciate the comment. It was a great time. Stay tuned for the continuation of Bark World recap tonight. I had to take a break yesterday to talk about Arie in the Greenies contest. Make sure to vote for her!
